16th District Voters Continue To Protest Against Smucker’s Support For Reckless Republican Health Care Repeal Legislation

Protest Highlights Smucker’s Fringe Views And Continued Support Of Reckless Republican Health Care Repeal

Last night, over 100 Pennsylvania voters gathered in Penn Square in downtown Lancaster to continue their protest of Smucker’s support of the reckless Republican health care repeal. The protest is an example of the outrage felt towards Smucker for casting the decisive “Yes” vote in favor of advancing the reckless Republican health care repeal out of the Budget Committee.

Their voices and message were loud and clear: voters in Pennsylvania’s 16th District won’t stand for Congressman Lloyd Smucker’s support of the proposed ACA-replacement bill and his on the record stance in favor of jacking up health insurance premiums and ripping away coverage from millions so that Republicans can cut taxes for health insurance CEOs.

“I was too rich to qualify for Medicaid but too poor to pay our medical expenses. ” said Cindy Jennings of Lancaster County. “I am trying to take care of my family but I can’t do it without the Affordable Care Act.”

It is clear that voters in the 16th District rely on the ACA and Medicaid and won’t stand for a plan that will limit federal funding for Medicaid, abandon subsidies for age-based tax credits, and potentially add 24 million American’s to the ranks of the uninsured.

Lloyd Smucker will continue to be held accountable until Election Day.
