What happened in Pittsburgh Friday afternoon?

Hundreds of activists participating in the People’s Convention in Pittsburgh marched through downtown to mark the beginning of a two-day meeting.

“The convention is attended by people from across the United States, pushing the message of equality for all races, living wages for all workers, condemning gun violence and deadly force against African American men by police,” reported WTAE news. “Pittsburgh police Chief Cameron McLay walked along with protesters and said it was peaceful.”

 

The march ended at Senator Pat Toomey’s office in Station Square.

The Senator was in Pittsburgh Friday afternoon, but he steered clear of his own office to avoid the march. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, “Toomey stayed away from his Station Square office.” Why?
