DAVID MCCORMICK PROMISES TO TARGET SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE IF ELECTED

Pennsylvanians’ retirement security could be at risk if David McCormick is elected

PENNSYLVANIA – New reporting from the Daily Beast features a roundup of GOP candidates threatening programs like Social Security and Medicare, including Connecticut hedge fund executive David McCormick:

David McCormick, the former CEO of the powerful hedge fund Bridgewater Associates, is a leading Republican candidate in the critical battleground of Pennsylvania. At a meet-and-greet on March 25, he acknowledged that entitlements were a “third rail” but proceeded to touch it anyway.

While McCormick noted that “we made promises” to “anybody in this room that’s got gray hair,” he argued entitlements “aren’t sustainable in their current form for the future of our country.”

“I don’t think my kids are going to be able to live under the same entitlements that all of us that are here,” McCormick said. “We have to face that reality and do two things at the same time: keep our promises to people we made them to, and change our entitlements in a way that are defensible and fundable into the future.”

Just last week McCormick called for the Trump tax cuts to be made permanent, a move that benefits the wealthy (like himself) and corporations while threatening programs like Medicare and Social Security.

Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Jack Doyle issued the following statement:

“David McCormick made a fortune on his ties to China and by outsourcing American jobs. Now he wants to target programs like Social Security and Medicare while securing tax breaks for the wealthy and giant corporations. McCormick has made it clear that he will sell out hard working families to help himself whenever he can – and that’s why he can’t be trusted to represent Pennsylvania in the Senate.”
