Foreshadowing: Toomey Endorsed By Job Loss Expert

Pat Toomey was endorsed by failed businesswoman and wannabe politician Carly Fiorina today. It’s an endorsement unlikely to move a single voter in Pennsylvania, but it does raise an interesting point about the principles Toomey stands for.

Remember Fiorina oversaw cutting 30,000 jobs while helming Hewlett-Packard, a tenure that led her to be named one of the worst American CEOs of all time. And while her employees got laid off, she earned a golden-parachute of $40 million. All of this resulted in the company’s stock plummeting 60% — see chart (which coincidentally looks a lot like Pat Toomey’s approval numbers):

Perhaps most galling, Fiorina endorsed Toomey because he will “keep communities safe in Pennsylvania.” Fiorina has zero credibility on issues of national security. While CEO, “Hewlett-Packard used a European subsidiary and a Middle East distributor to sell hundreds of millions of dollars of printers and other computer equipment to Iran” — despite US sanctions against doing so.

“Pat Toomey proudly accepting the endorsement of Carly Fiorina is evidence that he shares the values of corporate CEOs that ship Pennsylvanian jobs overseas,” said Preston Maddock, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. “Toomey should have to answer why he wants the support of someone who led a lucrative anti-worker corporate career, and engaged in ethically dubious business with Iran.
