GOVERNOR WOLF CONTINUES THE FIGHT AGAINST THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC

PENNSYLVANIA —
Governor Tom Wolf announced that his administration will continue to treat the victims of substance use disorder by opening 25 Centers of Excellence across the commonwealth. These centers will provide access to health care and treatment so people suffering from addiction can recover from the disease.

There will be 25 additional Centers of Excellence in Pennsylvania by Jan. 1 to provide more access to opioid addiction treatment, including sites in Fayette County and the Mon Valley, Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Monday. “As we all know, the opioid epidemic does not discriminate — it affects Pennsylvanians from all walks of life,” Wolf said in a statement. “With these additional locations, my administration is continuing its commitment to expanding high-quality treatment across Pennsylvania.”

Rather than just treating the addiction, the Department of Human Services will treat the entire person through team-based treatment, with the explicit goal of integrating behavioral health and primary care and, when appropriate, evidence-based medication assisted treatment.
