GOVERNOR WOLF MAKES SIX-PACKS AVAILABLE IN GAS STATIONS

PENNSYLVANIA — Governor Wolf announced that the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board will allow the sale of six packs of beer in gas stations, just in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Pennsylvanians will now have the convenience of buying beer in Wawa, Sheetz, and other gas stations across the state.

Pennlive.com: Six-packs headed to gas stations and Gov. Tom Wolf is delighted

It’s official: Six-packs could be coming to a gas station near you. And Gov. Tom Wolf is delighted. “Freeing the six-pack will make the commonwealth more inviting for customers and businesses,” the governor said, in a written statement released within minutes of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s approval of nine licenses for entities that also sell fuel.

Gov. Tom Wolf has thrown his support behind Pennsylvania’s convenience stores that want to sell limited amounts of beer. In an effort to “free the six pack,” Wolf sent a letter Tuesday to the state’s Liquor Control Board that asks it to approve a dozen license applications at an upcoming board meeting. Wolf noted that state law currently prohibits beer and gasoline sales at the same location, though exceptions have been made for some businesses that have been able to sell both on the same property while separating the transactions.

As the question of whether gas stations should be allowed to sell six-packs of beer waits before the state’s highest court, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has approved more locations for customers to both fill up and stock up. By unanimous vote, the LCB on Wednesday added sites in Luzerne, Washington, Huntingdon, Columbia and Allegheny counties to the list of those that can sell gas and beer.
