HOLIDAY TRAVEL TRIPLED IN 2021, BIDEN INFRASTRUCTURE LAW PROMISES SMOOTHER FUTURE TRAVELS FOR PENNSYLVANIANS

PENNSYLVANIA — This year, AAA estimated that more than 109 million Americans traveled for the holidays, an almost 34% increase from 2020. Folks across the commonwealth and the country traveled 50 miles or more as they hit the road, boarded airplanes or took trains out of town between December 23 and January 2.

This busy holiday season highlights more than ever the needed improvement, repair and expansion that the billions of dollars in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding will bring to Pennsylvania. President Biden’s decisive action and leadership in passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will, among other things, rebuild, expand and improve the infrastructure of airports across Pennsylvania, making travel better and safer for people across the commonwealth.

Airports across the state are looking forward to receiving the infrastructure funding:

  • Pittsburgh: $11 million to Pittsburgh International Airport is expected to receive $11 million
  • Erie: $1.4 million to Erie International/Tom Ridge Field
  • Harrisburg: $4.3 million to Harrisburg International
  • Allentown: $3.5 million to Lehigh Valley International
  • Latrobe: $1.7 million to Arnold Palmer Regional
  • Northeast PA: $2.5 million to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport will receive
  • Philadelphia: $30.7 million to the Philadelphia International Airport
  • Williamsport: $1 million to Williamsport Regional

“Thanks to President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, folks across the Commonwealth can look forward to improved travel for future holidays and beyond,” said PA Dems Spokesperson Rosie Lapowsky. “The Infrastructure Law will bring relief to 16 major airports in PA, totaling over $355 million in airport infrastructure funds to address the repair and maintenance backlog, reduce congestion and emissions and create good paying jobs. This is a historic investment in Pennsylvania airports.”
