ICYMI: PA DEMS HOLD TRUMP, PENCE ACCOUNTABLE FOR ATTACKS ON THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT AHEAD OF DEBATE & LITITZ VISIT

Ahead of the first presidential debate, and as Vice President Pence visited Lititz, elected leaders and local parents called out the Trump administration’s attacks on the Affordable Care Act. Check out some coverage below.

Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chair Nancy Patton Mills penned a guest column in LNP:

LNP: “”Onstage and at the watch party, you can probably guess what Trump and Pence will say — after all, it’s the same stuff they told us four years ago when they were running for president the first time. Unfortunately for Pennsylvanians, they were lying to us then, and they’re still lying to us now. Four years in, we’ve seen Trump and Pence make promise after promise, and break them time after time.”

And key Democratic leaders held a virtual press conference to discuss the Administration’s attacks on health care:

LNP: “Ahead of Pence’s visit to Lititz and the debate, Pennsylvania Democrats hosted a press call featuring Cindy Jennings, a Lititz resident who lives nearby Meadow Spring Farms… Because Pennsylvania expanded Medicaid, she was able to access the healthcare she needed for her pre-existing conditions. She was also able to get a routine colonoscopy, where her doctor found pre-cancerous polyps….She said she believes that this will all go away if Trump is elected for four more years.”

WHP-TV (watch the full clip here): “Pennsylvania Democrats are speaking out ahead of the Vice President’s watch party and the debate. During a virtual press conference today, they called out the report on the president’s taxes and his quote ‘ongoing attacks’ on the Affordable Care Act. “Donald Trump  on the other hand is actually in court right now trying to eliminate the health care of 28 million Americans by eliminating the Affordable Care Act and make health care premiums increase for 82 million Americans who have pre-existing conditions,” [said Sen. Sharif Street.]”

WFMZ-TV (watch the full clip here): “Pennsylvania Democrats held a virtual news conference in the afternoon; a Democratic supporter who lives a stone’s throw away from the farm where the VP spoke stood in opposition to the Trump campaign’s take on health care. She said she relied heavily on the Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act.”

WFMZ-TV (watch the full clip here):  “One woman who spoke on behalf of Biden and lived near the farm says the Affordable Care Act is extremely important for her and says she doesn’t even understand whether the president even has a health care plan. ‘It enabled me to focus on looking for a job and figuring out the new life that was going to be for me as a divorced woman, a single mom. I still have the full-time care of my handicapped son,’ [Jennings said].”

WPMT-TV (watch the full clip here): “Before the debate, Pennsylvania Democrats will also be active, talking about health care policy in the Commonwealth. Lawmakers and Pennsylvanians who rely on health care, including a mom from Lititz, will discuss what they call the Trump administration’s quote ‘attacks on the Affordable Care Act’ and the contrasting plan from Democrats.”

WHP-TV (watch the full clip here): “Pennsylvania Democrats are speaking up due to both the debate and the vice president’s visit to Lititz tonight. Many spoke on the Trump administration’s attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, including Lititz resident Cindy Jennings, who lives less than a mile from where the watch party was. ‘I am so grateful for those safety net programs and for the Affordable Care Act. Just about three weeks ago, a single mom and two little kids moved in next to me. I want that to be there for her,’ [Jennings said].”

WFMZ Online: “One Democratic supporter who lives a stone’s throw away from the farm where the VP spoke stood in opposition when it comes to the Republican campaign’s take on health care, as she said she relied heavily on the Affordable Care Act. “It enabled me to focus on looking for a job and figuring out the new life that was going to be for me as a divorced woman, a single mom, I still have the full-time care of my handicapped son,” said Cindy Jennings, of Lititz.”

ABC 27 Online: “Before the debate, PA Democrats released this statement that read in part: ‘We sit some 30 days from Election Day, Donald Trump is still denying that COVID is real while over 200,000 Americans have died. Over 7 million have been infected and he’s still pretending it’s going to go away…’ — Sen.Sharif Street, Pennsylvania Democratic Party Vice-Chair.”
