ICYMI: Toomey Refuses to Even Meet with Supreme Court Nominee

ICYMI: After ducking the question over the past week, Pat Toomey said Friday that he refuses to even meet with whomever is nominated to the Supreme Court.

“Pat Toomey’s position on the Supreme Court vacancy is completely at odds with the constitutional process and the expectations of Pennsylvanians,” said Marcel L. Groen, Chairman of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. “It’s offensive to the institutions of our democracy to, sight unseen, oppose any and all nominees of President Obama. If he has any respect for his office and his constituents, Pat Toomey will be willing to at least meet with the Supreme Court nominee.”

A reminder from a new poll out last week: 76% of Pennsylvanians “think the Senate should wait to see who is nominated to the Supreme Court before deciding whether to confirm that person.”

… Toomey says he won’t even meet President Obama’s nominee.

“This time, in this context, this isn’t about the qualifications of the individual.”

 Delano: “Will you meet…?”

Toomey: “I don’t see the point. This is not about the qualifications of the individual.”

Delano: “Don’t you think it’s a courtesy to the President and to the process?”

Toomey: “The President is probably going to make a nomination. That’s fine. He has the constitutional right to do that. But I think everybody knows where this is going to end. The next president is going to make the decision.”
