Why Is It ‘Inappropriate’ That Nearly 700-Thousand Pennsylvanians Now Have Health Care Coverage, Senator Toomey?

Toomey & GOP Will Make It Harder For Pennsylvanians — Including Those Dealing With Drug & Alcohol Addiction — To Receive Treatment

In Politico yesterday, Senator Pat Toomey said he views 700,000 Pennsylvanians now having access to health care as “inappropriate.” Toomey said, “My view is that was an inappropriate expansion of Medicaid. And it’s part of what needs to be repealed.”

“Senator Toomey should explain what’s ‘inappropriate’ about the fact that 700,000 of his constituents who did not have access to health care are now covered under Governor Wolf’s Medicaid expansion,” said Brandon Cwalina, Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson. “The record is clear, Pennsylvania’s uninsured rate has fallen, access to health care has risen, and these reforms are playing a vital role in combatting the opioid and heroin crisis ravaging our communities. Senator Toomey’s plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a replacement plan has real consequences and affects our most vulnerable like children, seniors, and those suffering from opioid and heroin addiction.”
