IT’S TAX DAY AND THE CONTRAST IS CLEAR — JOSH SHAPIRO IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR WITH A RESPONSIBLE PLAN TO CUT TAXES

Republicans across the country have called for tax hikes and the Trumpy candidates for Governor would cut funding for infrastructure and police — but Josh Shapiro has a plan to cut taxes while investing in our roads, bridges, and public safety.

PENNSYLVANIA — It’s Tax Day and Pennsylvanians are filing their taxes today, but if Republicans get their way this November, Pennsylvanians could be forced to pay more in taxes — or forced to live with underfunded infrastructure and law enforcement.

Republicans have put forward two dangerous plans. One, pushed by Republicans like Allegheny County GOP Chair Sam DeMarco, advocates for “broadening the tax base,” otherwise known as raising taxes on working class Pennsylvanians. The other plan, championed by many of the extreme Republican candidates for Governor, would reward oil company executives and cut the funding sources for Pennsylvania’s roads, bridges, and State Police, while Pennsylvanians could only see one-third of the savings.

On the other hand, Attorney General Josh Shapiro has a fiscally responsible plan to cut taxes, lower costs, and put money back in Pennsylvanians’ pockets, while continuing to fund critical infrastructure and public safety priorities.

Simply put, the Republicans either want to raise taxes or threaten to defund the police.

“Millions of Pennsylvanians are paying their taxes today, but they won’t get any help from Republicans. The Republican plans on taxes are irresponsible and reckless — they would either raise taxes on over 35% of Pennsylvanians or threaten to defund infrastructure and State Police,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem. “Instead of responding to serious issues like rising prices with serious plans, the GOP candidates for Governor are resorting to cheap soundbites — if only they’d listen to Pennsylvanians as much as they listen to Trump, maybe then they’d get it.”

As PA Dems Chairwoman Nancy Patton Mills recently called out in an opinion piece, Republicans’ crusade to raise taxes is just one example of why their “tone-deaf agenda” is so dangerous, and it “doesn’t stop there.”

The far-right candidates for Governor refuse to support President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will be used to fix over 3,000 of our bridges in disrepair, expand broadband access to the over 394,000 Pennsylvanians without it, and create tens of thousands of good-paying, union jobs. They oppose the American Rescue Plan — which reduced poverty for over three million Pennsylvania children. And now, they’re fighting with each other over their half-baked plans to cut the gas tax, which would defund infrastructure, defund the State Police, and make communities less safe.
