SUBJECT: GOP Gubernatorial Candidates Support Partisan Gerrymandering

Yesterday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court struck down the current gerrymandered congressional map and ordered that they be redrawn. However, over the weekend at a debate, Mike Turzai, Paul Mango, and Scott Wagner all said they support the current partisan gerrymandered map.

Mike Turzai, Paul Mango, and Scott Wagner would choose politics over making sure that Pennsylvanians are fairly represented in government. A Republican governor would fight to defend partisan gerrymandering at the expense of a government representative of the people.

Moderator: “You’re good with the lines now? Yes? I’m hearing yes.”
Mike Turzai: “It was a bipartisan vote. Yes.”

Paul Mango: “It may have been partisan, but it’s constitutional. You know what that means? Elections have consequences. That’s why we have to return a Republican legislature in 2018 and it’s why we need a Republican Governor.”

Scott Wagner: “The courts will decide what will happen. The current system, as Speaker Turzai said, was voted on. It was a bipartisan vote. And Democrats and Republicans came together and voted the current system into place.”
