NEW POLL SHOWS PAT TOOMEY DEEPLY UNDERWATER

Nearly 2/3rds of PA Voters Want Toomey to Call for Witnesses In Impeachment Trial

PENNSYLVANIA – Yesterday, a new poll by Public Policy Polling revealed that Pat Toomey is severely underwater. 51% disapprove of Pat Toomey’s job performance while only 25% of Pennsylvanians approve. Additionally, nearly 2/3rds of voters want him to vote to call witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial.

“Pennsylvanians are fully aware that Pat Toomey is covering up for Donald Trump’s impeachable offenses,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party senior communications advisor, Beth Melena. “If Pat Toomey continues to refuse to support calling witnesses and release relevant evidence, he is proving that he has no intention of keeping the oath he took to ‘do impartial justice, according to the Constitution and laws.’ Pennsylvanians will not forget that Pat Toomey sided with Mitch McConnell and the far-right to block a fair trial.”

BACKGROUND

“In his interview Thursday, Mr. Toomey defended the trial’s structure. Let’s wait and hear the entire presentation by the House managers, let’s hear the defense of the president’s team,” Mr. Toomey said. ‘It’s not clear yet’ whether the Senate needs to call witnesses and obtain more information. ‘Calling witnesses could prolong this enormously,’ he said. “I mean, not just a couple of weeks. It could be months, literally.’” [Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 1/23/20]

“I am not convinced that a lengthy trial in which every tangentially related character is called to testify. I’m not convinced that that is in the interest of the American people or that is something the American people want to go through, especially since the outcome seems to be pretty clear,” said Pat Toomey.
