The county’s nastiest primary continues to escalate on a daily basis
PENNSYLVANIA – In the same week that New Jersey daytime TV show host Mehmet Oz went direct to camera to to slam Connecticut hedge fund executive for the mismanagement of Pennsylvania teachers’ pensions and the funding he received from Democratic donors and “Never Trump” Republicans, the nasty attacks between the two carpetbaggers escalated even further. We also saw the McCormick team push a story that Oz was considering dropping out of the race, to which Oz responded with denials and attacks on “Dishonest Dave”.
For months the McCormick campaign had leveled attacks at Oz around his dual Turkish citizenship, attacks that “sought to undermine Oz by raising doubts about his loyalties and financial interests because of his dual citizenship.”
Yesterday Oz addressed his dual citizenship and fired back at McCormick:
My Dual citizenship has become a distraction in this campaign. I maintained it to care for my ailing mother, but after several weeks of discussions with my family, I’m committing that before I am sworn in as the next U.S. Senator for Pennsylvania I will only be a U.S. citizen.
The bigoted attacks my opponent Dave McCormick has made against me as athe child of immigrants are reminiscent of slurs made in the past about Catholics and Jews. It is a sign of McCormick’s desperate campaign that he has resorted to this disgraceful tactic. It is completely disqualifying behavior for anyone aiming to serve in the United States Senate.
McCormick wasted no time in firing back, quote tweeting Oz’s original statement with the following:
Do it now. Voters can’t trust Mehmet Oz. He has lied about his position on abortion, the 2nd Amendment, immigration, masks, and Fauci to name a few. Renounce your Turkish citizenship now. We won’t be fooled again.
