PA Democrats Are Taking A Stand (And A Seat) To End Gun Violence

PENNSYLVANIA — Pennsylvania Democrats in the Senate and the House of Representatives are calling for action following the worst mass shooting in American history. Across the country, people are demanding “enough,” and Democrats are listening.

Last week, Senator Bob Casey joined Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy in a 15-hour filibuster to demand a vote on bills that would keep guns out of the hands of terrorists and expand background checks. He has also proposed legislation to ban the sale of guns to those convicted of hate crimes.

Today, Representatives Bob Brady (PA-1), Brendan Boyle (PA-13), Mike Doyle (PA-14), and Matt Cartwright (PA-17) took to the House floor — literally — to demand a vote on legislation to keep people on the no-fly list from buying guns.

Politico: Democrats stage sit-in on House floor to force gun vote

More than two dozen House Democrats staged a “sit-in” on the House floor Wednesday in protest of GOP leadership’s refusal to allow a vote on a gun control measure following the Orlando massacre. […] “We’ve had it. We’re not going to watch any more people in this country get slaughtered and do nothing!” Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) yelled during the protest.

“Senator Casey and representatives Brady, Boyle, Doyle, Cartwright, and others know that bills that would keep more Americans from being gunned down are common sense,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party Deputy Press Secretary Brandon Cwalina. “Pennsylvania is fortunate to have representatives in D.C. who are demanding an end to gun violence.”
