PA GOP Leaders Snub Mitch McConnell’s Handpicked Candidate

Barletta’s Primary Problems Mount As Legislative Leaders Back Christiana

Pennsylvania’s Republican House Speaker, House Majority Leader, and Senate Majority Leader are sending a clear message: they are not sold on Mitch McConnell’s handpicked candidate Congressman Lou Barletta. This week, State Representative Jim Christiana has earned the endorsements of Senate Leader Jake Corman, House Leader Dave Reed, and gubernatorial candidate Speaker Mike Turzai. As momentum builds for Rep. Christiana’s Senate campaign, Barletta also faces another challenger, Paul Addis, who has over $1 million in the bank.

“Pennsylvania Republican leaders have made it crystal clear that they do not want Mitch McConnell’s handpicked candidate Congressman Lou Barletta to be the Republican nominee for the 2018 Senate race,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesman Max Steele. “Clearly they don’t believe a historically unpopular Congress passing a historically unpopular tax scheme on behalf of a historically unpopular President is a winning formula.”
