PA HOUSE REPUBLICANS SAY “BAH HUMBUG” TO WORKING FAMILIES

PA House GOP breaks for Christmas without acting on bipartisan wage increase for workers

HARRISBURG Your Republican State Representatives sure aren’t feeling the Christmas spirit. Yesterday came and went with the House GOP failing to act on a bipartisan Senate bill to increase Pennsylvania’s abysmal minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.50 an hour. Now, working families across Pennsylvania will spend another Christmas with one of the lowest minimum wages in the nation. Even worse, the lack of action is due to special interests lobbying against the bill.

“House Republicans prove once again that they are just not interested in standing up for working families,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesman Brendan Welch. “Pennsylvania workers have earned a pay raise, but the House GOP is more interested in fighting for the special interests that fund their campaigns than the people they are supposed to represent. Republicans continue to put special interests before common interests and it’s time for them to be replaced by pro-worker Democrats.”

“Part of the reason for the bill’s icy reception in the House has been continued lobbying from business groups…” [Pennsylvania Capital-Star, 12/18/19
