Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chair Marcel Groen Announces State Party Senior Staff

HARRISBURG, PA— Today, Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chair Marcel L. Groen named new senior staff members to lead the state party’s political and ground operations. Corey Pellington has been named Deputy Executive Director and Mitch Kates has been brought on to serve as Political Director.

“I’m very pleased to welcome these talented, driven individuals to our team,” said Groen. “Their diverse backgrounds and proven ability to win races will make them a great asset to our party. Both of them will work closely on the ground with State Committee members, the county parties and our Democratic candidates.”

In addition to the previously announced Executive Director Sinceré Harris, Elections and Data Director Megan Winters, and Digital Director Zainab Javed, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party announced the following appointments:

Corey Pellington is taking on the role of Deputy Executive Director. He previously served as Deputy Field Director in Western Pennsylvania for Tom Wolf for Governor, and Deputy Executive Director of the Wolf Inaugural Committee. Most recently, he was with the Governor’s Office of Administration. One of Pellington’s roles will be to work closely with the Democratic National Convention Committee and the 2016 Host Committee to coordinate the state party’s delegate selection process and the Democratic convention this July.

Mitch Kates is the State Party’s new Political Director. In addition to managing David Wecht’s successful bid for Supreme Court last November, Kates has built a national and international profile for leading winning campaigns, including that of Prime Ministers of the countries of Georgia and Kosovo. Kates will focus on candidate recruitment and building an infrastructure for winning campaigns across the commonwealth.
