PENNSYLVANIA DEMOCRATIC PARTY STATEMENT ON THE 2021 ELECTION

PENNSYLVANIA — Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy Patton Mills issued the following statement:

“There is a lot to celebrate tonight — and we are still waiting for ballots to be counted in crucial elections across the commonwealth, including for our judicial races.

It’s been a groundbreaking night as we celebrate the victories of Ed Gainey — who will be the first Black Mayor of Pittsburgh — and Kenya Johns, who will serve as the first Black Mayor of Beaver Falls.

We also congratulate Larry Krasner for his re-election as Philadelphia District Attorney, Wanda Williams who will serve as the next Mayor of Harrisburg, Matt Tuerk’s election as Mayor of Allentown, and Lamont McClure’s re-election as Northampton County executive. Our candidates showed up with a message of delivering for the hardworking families of Pennsylvania and will work hard to achieve a better tomorrow for their constituents.

Finally, I want to thank each and every one of our candidates for well-run races. We are proud of the entire ticket and every candidate’s commendable efforts.

We are grateful to so many who made our victories possible, from the candidates who stepped up to make a difference for their communities, our committee members, grassroots supporters, and Democrats at the local, county and state levels. Keeping Pennsylvania blue is a true team effort, and one we look forward to building upon as we head into the pivotal races of 2022.”
