PENNSYLVANIA — The billionaire Koch brothers are laying down part of their vast fortune in Pennsylvania to help re-elect Senator Pat Toomey. Adding to millions already spent by themselves and Wall Street banks, the Kochs’ political arm is dropping another $1.3 million in ads to smear Toomey’s opponent Katie McGinty.
Characteristically, their latest attack is misleading and hypocritical. The Koch brothers entire political agenda is built on using money to buy off politicians like Pat Toomey. It’s a simple formula: vote their way and they’ll return the favor in campaign contributions.
Exhibit A: Toomey’s earned a near perfect score from the Kochs’ influence peddling organization for his votes to close the Export-Import Bank and end Medicare as we know it. In return, they are plying his re-election with millions.
“Pat Toomey is the poster boy for looking out for his friends at the top,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesman Preston Maddock. “It’s no accident that his campaign is funded by the oligarchy that runs the Republican Party. The Koch brothers and Wall Street bankers know sending Toomey back to the Senate means he’ll do their bidding, as he always has.”
