Statement On Toomey’s Empty Gesture Meeting With Garland

PENNSYLVANIA — Pat Toomey just met with Judge Merrick Garland to tell him what has been clear for months: Toomey has no intention of doing his job on the Supreme Court vacancy. The meeting was a display of political theater meant to paper over the fact that Toomey’s Supreme Court obstruction is costing him with voters back home.

“Today’s meeting was the busiest Pat Toomey will ever be when it comes to this Supreme Court vacancy,” said Preston Maddock, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. “This is another chapter in a record of obstruction that will undermine Toomey’s re-election. From the outset of this process, Toomey has stood with Mitch McConnell against the will of Pennsylvanians — whom overwhelmingly think Garland deserves a hearing and a vote. This goes to show how truly out-of-touch Toomey is with Commonwealth voters.”
