Top PA Dems Blast Trump’s Broken Promises On Health Care & Agriculture

PENNSYLVANIA — This morning, on a statewide press call, top Pennsylvania Democrats called out the President’s toxic record on health care as well as the harmful impacts of his erratic trade policy on farmers and rural communities ahead of President Trump’s visit to Hershey. Alongside PA Democratic Party Vice-Chair Sen. Sharif Street, Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee Chair Sen. Judy Schwank and Health & Human Services Chair Sen. Art Haywood pointed to the Trump Administration’s record of broken promises.

It’s unfortunate that he is not focused on the things that are needed to help the country,” opened Pennsylvania Democratic Party Vice-Chair Senator Sharif Street.

“He is holding a rally in Hershey because Pennsylvania is a critically important state, and he realizes that he’s lost a lot of support around the commonwealth,” he continued, pointing to Trump’s record of broken promises on trade. “He’s put in place policies that have hurt local econom[ies] and that have undermined our ability to conduct business… and we can’t let him off the hook. Even if he says he cares, his policies say the opposite.”

On Agriculture, Farming & Rural Communities:

“We’ve been let down in terms of what was promised to the agriculture industry, in terms of what was promised to our farmers, and in terms of what was delivered,” said Agriculture & Rural Affairs Democratic Chair Senator Judy Schwank.

“Just in 2018, almost 2,700 dairy farms in the country went out of business, nearly 15% of those in Pennsylvania alone… When you look at his trade policy and its impact on the global market, this Administration is making it very very tough for our farmers to compete,” she continued while pointing to the Administration’s trade war with China.

On Health Care & Prescriptions Drugs:

“There is a lawsuit that the Trump Administration is supporting that would declare the Affordable Care Act invalid,” said Health & Human Services Democratic Chair Senator Art Haywood speaking on the Texas Vs. Azar case. Over a million Americans have lost health care as a result of the policies of the Trump Administration and its efforts to sabotage the Affordable Care Act. The Trump Administration’s promise of more health care, higher quality care…have not been met.”

“There’s nothing that the Trump Administration has been able to produce other than talk about how to [lower] prescription drug costs,” he continued while pointing to the ongoing problem of skyrocketing prescription drug prices — an issue Democrats in the House are working to address this week.
