TRUMP’S AGENDA TRICKLES DOWN TO COUNTY GOVERNMENT

PENNSYLVANIA —

Donald Trump has called on a ban for an entire religion, and his divisive and hateful rhetoric has proven time and time again that he is unfit to be president. He has mocked people with disabilities, disparaged prisoners of war, and has used hateful rhetoric against Muslims. Now his extreme rhetoric has trickled down to his supporters at the county level:

Centre Daily Times: County commissioner posts anti-Islamic messages on Facebook

Mifflin County Commissioner Lisa Nancollas is in hot water with some of her constituents after a series of Facebook posts on Saturday afternoon. The first post was a meme […] of a mosque with a red “no” symbol covering it. It also said “No Islam Allowed.” The commissioner followed the post with a message for anyone following her page. “If you don’t like what I post on my wall then don’t look at my wall,” the second post said.

The  Mifflin County Democratic Party issued the following statement:

“The Mifflin County Democratic Committee repudiates Commissioner Nancollas’ original inflammatory comments concerning the Islamic religion. These comments, issued from her official Mifflin County Commissioner Facebook page, were totally irresponsible and unprofessional. Even after Nancollas issued a statement ‘clarifying’ that her comments were about Radical Islamic terrorists, they clearly were not. She made no mention of terrorists in those posts, just the Islamic religion specifically. Words matter. Such statements are divisive, non-productive, and may result in negative consequences to our community. Hateful language about any group done publicly by an elected official should not be tolerated.”

Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairman Marcel L. Groen  added:

“The right to free speech also comes with ramifications and consequences; elected officials should not use their title and position as a platform to express their own personal beliefs as fact. Since Commissioner Nancollas does not regret her prejudicial statements and has chosen to stand by them, she should step down as Mifflin County Commissioner and join an organization that welcomes her intolerant views.”
