The Corman-Barletta ICE Detention Program has come under new scrutiny… but Barletta cast a vote to enable the program, and Corman’s longtime political benefactors run and profit from it.
PENNSYLVANIA – While former Congressman Lou Barletta and Harrisburg GOP Leader Jake Corman “grandstand” and “stir up fake outrage” around federal aviation and immigration policy, they are ignoring their own role in creating and benefiting from the privately-run ICE detention facility in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. Their accusations “lack facts or context,” so here are the real facts:
Shot: Former Congressman Lou Barletta is stirring up fake outrage about ICE detainees being brought to Pennsylvania to be held in a privately-run detention facility.
Chaser: In Congress, Lou Barletta quite literally cast a vote to allow ICE detainees to be brought to Pennsylvania and be held in privately-run detention facilities.
Then, Jake Corman jumped on the bandwagon, too, but he failed to mention that one of his longtime political donors runs the facility.
Shot: Like Barletta, Jake Corman took to the press to politicize this issue, presumably to win over the Republican base as he runs for Governor against Barletta.
Chaser: Jake Corman criticized a plan to close this facility and has a longstanding political relationship with the special interests who run it — GEO Group spent nearly $50,000 on lobbying Harrisburg in 2021 and has given thousands of dollars to Corman and state Senate Republicans.
Conclusion: Barletta voted for it. Corman benefited from it. Gentlemen, if you’ve now had a change of heart, you should contact your offices and sort this out.
