CBO Confirms Pennsylvanians Worst Fears About Trumpcare

Twenty days ago, Republicans in Congress voted for Trumpcare without knowing what was in the bill or how a dramatic shakeup of one-sixth of the economy would impact hardworking Americans. Today the Congressional Budget Office report confirmed our worst fears.

In response, Pennsylvania Democratic Party Executive Director Sinceré Harris released the following statement:

“This bill, which Congressmen Mike Kelly, Lou Barletta, and seven other Pennsylvania Republicans voted for, will raise out-of-pocket health care expenses by dramatically increasing premiums, deductibles, and the cost of prescription drugs. Older Pennsylvanians will face an age tax that allows insurers to charge them up to five times more for care. The millions of Pennsylvanians with pre-existing conditions could lose protections, meaning those with cancer, asthma, diabetes, or even women who’ve been pregnant, will be forced to pay more. Trumpcare slashes funding for nursing homes and children with disabilities, all so millionaires can see their taxes lowered.”

“Rather than working to improve our health care system, Republicans have embraced a disastrous plan that will harm Pennsylvania families and seniors while sending out-of-pocket costs skyrocketing. Today’s scoring by the Congressional Budget Office, wherein 23 million Americans will lose their health care coverage, only further underscores what we’ve already known: the House Republican plan spells disaster for the people of our commonwealth. Pennsylvanians will hold all of those who voted for this bill accountable next November.”
