Chairman Groen On The Protest Against Trump’s Visit And His Lies About The City Of Philadelphia

Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairman Marcel L. Groen issued the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s visit to Philadelphia:

“Donald Trump is either woefully unaware of what’s happening in the country or he’s purposefully lying, and either way he’s dangerous. Trump came to Philadelphia and lied about the city to its face. Not that we’re surprised, coming from the administration that invented the term ‘alternative facts,’ which we all know is just a brazen way to lie to the American people. So I was proud to see the people of Philadelphia take to the streets to protest his dangerous policies. We, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, stand in solidarity with all who came out to have their voices heard. It’s now up to the president to prove to Pennsylvanians that he is listening to them.”

The protests began Wednesday night, when a thousand people massed outside the hotel, and picked up in the rain Thursday morning. By lunchtime, several thousand people had gathered on Thomas Paine Plaza across from City Hall, while about a hundred pressed as close to the hotel as barriers would allow.

Washington Post: Thousands demonstrated against Trump in Philly. Is this a new era of perpetual protest?

Several thousand protesters converged Thursday in Philadelphia, hoping to have their voices heard by President Trump and Republican members of Congress, who were meeting in a hotel blocks away to plan their legislative agenda for the coming months. Less than a week after Trump’s inauguration inspired demonstrations — notably, the millions of marchers who descended on Washington and cities worldwide to protest his presidency — the Philadelphia gathering seemed to signal a new era of what could turn out to be perpetual protest.
