Congressman Kelly Votes for Budget that Will Raise Premiums for Working Families, Hike Prescription Drug Costs for Seniors and Put Insurance Companies Back in Charge
Despite Being in Congress since 2010, Congressman Kelly Has No Plan to Replace Affordable Care Act
Today, extremist Congressman Mike Kelly voted to raise premiums for Pennsylvania’s middle class, hike the cost of prescription drugs for the Commonwealth’s seniors and end consumer protections for millions throughout the nation. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), Congressman Kelly’s plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without a plan to replace it could cause premiums to rise by as much as 20%. It will bring back the prescription drug gap for seniors, raising costs, and empower insurance companies to deny coverage to those with preexisting conditions.
“Congressman Kelly should be held accountable for the real consequences of his vote: higher premiums, more costly prescription drugs and an end to vital consumer protections,” said Preston Maddock, Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson. “Congressman Kelly’s vote is deeply irresponsible. Instead of putting forth a plan he’s set in motion health care chaos for Pennsylvania’s middle class.”
