Iraq War Veteran Responds To Trump’s Praise Of Saddam Hussein, Pat Toomey’s Refusal To Disavow The GOP Nominee

PENNSYLVANIA — Today, United States Air Force veteran and Pittsburgh resident Nathan Mallory issued the following statement on Donald Trump’s praise of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, and Pat Toomey’s continued support for the Republican standard bearer:

“Senator Toomey calls himself a leader on national security, but it’s hard to take him at his word when he refuses to condemn Donald Trump’s out-of-control rhetoric. Again and again, Toomey’s preferred presidential candidate has demonstrated that he is totally unfit to be Commander-in-Chief. The latest example occurred last night when Trump praised brutal tyrant Saddam Hussein. As a veteran of the Iraq War, it was insulting to hear a major party nominee commend a murderous dictator who gassed his own citizens and funded attacks against Israel. As a lifelong Pennsylvanian, I’m ashamed to be represented by Senator Toomey, who remains silent on, and thus complicit with, Trump’s dangerous views. This is shameful politicking from Senator Toomey. Any notion that he cares about making communities safer or our nation more secure is contradicted by his refusal to disavow Trump for president.”

Mallory is a USAF veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a member of the Air Force Security Forces. He is active in multiple veterans and civic groups in Pittsburgh.
