Meehan Votes To Raise Premiums By 20% For PA’s Middle Class

Today, Meehan Voted for GOP Budget that Would Raise Premiums, Hike Drug Costs and End Consumer Protections

Irresponsible Vote Could Cause Chaos for PA Families, yet Meehan Still Doesn’t have a Replacement Plan

Today, Congressman Pat Meehan voted to raise premiums for Pennsylvania’s middle class, hike the prescription drug costs for seniors and end vital consumer protections like the ban on discriminating against those with a preexisting condition. Meehan’s irresponsible vote has the potential to cause chaos for Pennsylvania families because he has no plan to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA). According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office repealing the ACA without a plan to replace it could cause premiums to rise by 20%. Meehan’s vote also brings back the prescription drug gap for seniors, which will raise costs, and empower insurance companies to deny health care to sick children.

“Pat Meehan just voted to raise premiums for the middle class, hike prescription drug costs for seniors and allow insurance companies to deny coverage to young children who have a preexisting condition,” said Preston Maddock, Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson. “It’s time for Pat Meehan to be held accountable: despite the dire consequences for Pennsylvania families he’s put forth no plan to replace the ACA. It’s time for Pat Meehan to come out of hiding and tell the people of Pennsylvania why he is voting to jack up their premiums.”
