ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF ROE V. WADE, THE STAKES FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS IN PENNSYLVANIA COULD NOT BE HIGHER

PENNSYLVANIA — On the anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem issued the following statement:

“On the anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision that established a woman’s right to access an abortion, reproductive rights are hanging by a thread — including right here in Pennsylvania, where far-right candidates for Governor have joined Harrisburg Republicans in attacking a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions.

“While the majority of Americans support the Supreme Court upholding Roe v. Wade and oppose a Texas-style abortion ban, which is one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country — banning abortion before most women know they are pregnant with no exceptions for rape and incest, and incentivizing private citizens to sue anyone who helps a woman access reproductive healthcare — all of the leading GOP candidates in the crowded primary have extreme and unpopular anti-choice positions.

“The Republican gubernatorial candidates continue to make clear every day that to ensure reproductive rights are safe, Pennsylvania must have a Democratic Governor. Luckily, Pennsylvanians have the opportunity to elect a pro-choice champion, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro to the Governor’s office.”
