Tonight, following the GOP-led government shutdown, Pennsylvania Democratic Party executive director Sinceré Harris released the following statement:
“Today’s shutdown is the result of the president and congressional leaders being unable to do the business of governing, despite controlling the House, Senate, and White House.
“Congressional Republican leaders made the decision not to reauthorize CHIP. President Trump said he supported Dreamers and then repealed DACA. Now, due to Republican infighting and Donald Trump’s inability to stick with a coherent policy for more than a few hours, the United States government is shutting down. No amount of finger-pointing or scapegoating from Senator Toomey and Congressman Barletta can change the fact that Republicans are in charge and responsible for this unnecessary crisis.”
