Toomey Still Hasn’t Returned Or Donated $22K From Dennis Hastert, Now Known As Prisoner No. 47991-424

PENNSYLVANIA — Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert reports to prison today to start serving a sentence stemming from his abhorrent history of sexually abusing children and paying his victims to keep quiet about his crimes as he climbed the political ladder.

But even though Hastert started paying his debt to society today, Pat Toomey still has yet to return or donate the $22,000 in campaign contributions from the disgraced former Speaker. Toomey’s glaring refusal stands in contrast to many of his colleagues, who returned or donated the dirty money.

“Dennis Hastert’s monstrous crimes taint his entire political career — a career that included aiding Pat Toomey in his elections with $22,000 in contributions,” said Preston Maddock, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. “For the last time, we call on Sen. Toomey to follow the actions of his colleagues and return or donate Hastert’s dirty money. Today — the day the former Speaker’s prison sentence begins — is Toomey’s final opportunity to do the right thing.”
